Forensic Identification
John Norman began his career based at New Scotland Yard prior to transferring to Greater Manchester Police in 1974 until finally moving in August 1989 to join the Forensic Identification Services Section of the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police, Canada) where he has since specialised in footwear evidence.
During his time in the OPP he has presented and instructed a variety of Police Departments and Forces throughout Canada. John has presented on numerous occasions to the IAI (International Association for Identification) particularly with regard to Footwear Impact Injuries, along with Footwear and Barefoot Identifications. He is also on the Footwear and Tire Track Committee to the IAI
He currently instructs on the Advanced Footwear Analysis Course at Ontario Police College, and is undertaking a research paper on Footwear Impact Injuries As a Senior Forensic Analyst his role is to confirm unit member’s and OPP field member’s findings and identifications and advice and assist both them and Regional and Municipal Police Forces on Footwear Identification.
He has presented footwear evidence and is an accepted expert witness in footwear examinations and identifications. This is evidenced in the cases he has presented within the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice:

He has received numerous commendations for his presentation of expert footwear evidence.
John’s knowledge and practical experience highlights the quality and depth of the training offered by Forensic Pathways. As such he is viewed as a key member of the forensic identification team within FPL. |
